Wes Anderson - Auteur
Royal Tenenbaums
I chose to look back at the shaving scene from 'Royal Tenenbaums', to look at the way Wes Anderson works. in this scene we can see that Wes has always had a specific kind of style when it comes to the way he shoots his films. we see that Luke Wilson is framed in the dead centre of the shot at all times while in front of the mirror, the colour is chosen specifically for the scene and dialogue is important too. the use of symmetry has always been an important thing for Wes, and it is very clear that this is the case in this scene. the colour he chose for the room is also very specific, being a cold blue. this could be because of the room being meant to be cold, or the fact that Luke Wilson's character is about to attempt suicide, which is a cold, dark subject. the dialogue is important too, having not come from Luke's character, but rather from a voice over of Luke, talking to himself. the mise-en-scene is quite importasnt too, the objects in the room have obviously been chosen with great precision.
