The Music Video That Inspires Me In My Work

One Republic

Wherever I Go

Wherever I go by One Republic has probably one of my favourite music videos to date, simply because of how explosive it is. All the action that happens in the music video just pops with the beat, which is something I've not seen very much. Most song have a video that looks explosive like this one, however the song itself is on a different wavelength. Like, the video pops at a different point in the song to the actual music, which really takes the viewer out of it.

The Video

The video for Wherever I Go depicts a young, slightly miserable, asian man during a routine morning on his way to work, in which he stops a few times to collect his thoughts while looking at a picture of Budweiser. However upon arriving at his office floor, he decides to take a different path for the day. He drops his briefcase in the surprisingly small office room, and begins to interfere with he rest of the workers, taking there food, messing  with their papers, that sort of thing. He then proceeds to have a dance off with two burly looking men who begin to join in with him before walking away having been beat. He then proceeds to blast a female co-workers clothes off before everyone in the office joins in on the action, dancing on the tables and throwing work around. It's quite a sight. Our titular main character then spots the female co-worker he is in love with and bekons her over, but she shuns him away and wheels his office chair through a wall. This then reveals the band, One Republic, standing in a very regal looking room singing and playing the song. After sitting in awe of the band playing the song, the man is the wheeled back into the office and the wall he went through closes. This is my favourite part of the whole song. As the music kicks in in full force and explodes form the song, as does the video. It is at this point that the entire office changes into a colourful and vibrant version of what was once a dull place. The whole entire office joins in to dance and goes crazy, wearing bright and colourful suits and dresses. The dancing gets more complex to show how the workers are really enjoying this. Everyone involved is loving this and it definitely shows. Our main character then points at his love to be, and slides towards her with everything exploding as he goes past, and just as the two lovers are about to kiss.... DING, the elevator reaches its stop and everyone gets out, showing that it was all just in his head the whole time. He gives a sad sigh, the doors close and the title and band are displayed in Japanese.
Why I Love This Video
One of the main reasons I love this video is because of who exciting it is. Every part of it is memorable and cool. The way the video transitions from being boring and drab, to being vibrant and colourful is excellently done and the way that the main character changes to reflect how much more confident it makes him is awesome too. I would love to have been able to come up with something as awesome as this, and only wish to make things like it in the future.
